EXTINCTION
(Founded Jan. 30, 2003)

Philosophy

Before Galileo, people believed that the earth was at the center of the universe. Galileo’s belief that the Sun is the center of the universe was a heresy by the Catholic Church. Only by keeping an open mind, can we know the truth.

The surroundings of the central subject is as important as the central subject itself. However, people are distracted by the central subject, since it is the center of attention. Like Galileo, only by removing the belief that the earth is at the center of the universe, can we start understanding the universe. In the Extinction Style, we remove the central subject to understanding its surroundings.

We all live in a closed environment. The chaos theory states that when a butterfly flaps its wings in the tropics, it might create a tornado in the USA. What we do today, will affect what will happen tomorrow.

Extinction Style as a branch of the Thinkism Art Movement

In the Thinkism Art Movement, the message is more important than the style used to deliver the message. The Extinction Art Style was developed in order to deliver a more powerful message to the art lover. We hope that the Extinction Art Style not only gives the viewer a heart wrenching moment, but knocks their socks of as well. The Extinction Art Style is one of the best way to express the Thinkism Art Movement’s themes, with emphasis on man’s relationship with their environment.

The Extinction Style Itself

In David Kam’s Extinction Art Style series of paintings: Dodo, Rhino, Whale, and Panda, the animals are deliberately left out. The canvas is empty, where the animals are suppose to be. You will find only an impression of the missing animal.

The viewer is forced to explore the colors, and artwork around the central subject. The focus of the viewer is shifted from the central subject to its surroundings. “You only know how important something is, once you have lost it”, says artist David Kam.

David’s paintings forces the viewer to explore the world in which the animals live. Since the animals are missing from the painting, people will begin to understand the need to protect the environment in which the animals live. Only by protecting the environment, can we preserve the animals magnificence for future generations.

Artist David Kam had an art exhibition for Polar Bear Extinction to discuss about climate change 7 years before Al Gore, but in those days it was called Global Warming.
